Mold in feed. A comment on the cattle raisers
Much discussion is last to detect aflatoxin in cow’s milk. The mandatory use of antifungal products in feed solves the problem, thus increasing production costs and suspicion of cattle farmers. The suspicion arises when paying for something you do not see or do not know it: information is the solution.
Aflatoxins are fungal products (mold) developed mainly in foods of plant origin, when service conditions allow.
Fungi most relevant are flavus Aspergillus and Aspergillus parasiticus and their products aflatoxins B1 and B2 with their respective metabolites M1 and M2 detected in milk. The interest is related to their high toxicity and therefore the low allowable amount that may be present in the feed or the milk produced.
Unlike the molds that we see and sniffing, as aflatoxins are not visible, contaminate food and can pass through the mother’s body in milk (for human B1 for animals B2) after consumption of .
The veterinary legislation is very strict about compliance with the maximum permissible limits, as always when it comes to public health.
The dairy must make continuous controls for consumer protection and are able to oblige their suppliers-cattle raisers – steps to optimize the product to surrender.
The cattle raisers from their side should realize that self-control in the supply of feed is the only way and that prevention costs less than treatment.
